Millennial Scientific is pleased to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance for U.S. patent application No. 17/760,477, titled “A Process for Synthesis of Carbon Beads.” This application is a U.S. National Stage filing under 35 U.S.C. 371 and corresponds to Millennial Scientific’s core microdroplet-based manufacturing process for all‑carbon and other types of custom microbeads.

The allowed claims cover a continuous-flow, microdroplet materials chemistry process that enables

highly controlled synthesis of carbon microbeads with tailored size and surface properties for advanced separation and purification applications. This technology underpins Millennial Scientific’s all‑carbon chromatography media and broader microbead product platform for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical manufacturing workflows.

A Notice of Allowance is a formal indication that the USPTO has found the application’s claims to be allowable and that a U.S. patent will be granted following completion of standard issue formalities and fee payment. Once issued, this U.S. patent will add to Millennial Scientific’s growing global intellectual property portfolio, which already includes allowed or issued rights for the same core technology in China and Japan.

“Our goal from the beginning has been to bring precision microbead manufacturing into a robust, scalable, and industrially relevant process,” said Balaji Sitharaman, Ph.D., President of Millennial Scientific. “The Notice of Allowance from the USPTO is an important validation of the strength and novelty of our carbon bead synthesis platform.”

Co‑inventor and first‑named inventor Michael Parente added, “By controlling droplet formation and conversion conditions, this process offers fine control over bead morphology, porosity, and surface chemistry, enabling demanding chromatography and other high‑performance applications.” “We look forward to extending this technology into additional areas such as drug delivery.”

The Notice of Allowance is another milestone as Millennial Scientific continues to develop advanced materials for next‑generation separation and purification technologies.
