Millennial Scientific will partner with Leach Particle Technologies to drive sustainable advancements in the chromatography industry.
Leach Particle Technologies will expand its existing chromatography column recycling program in the UK and Europe to include Millennial Scientific’s NanoPak-C All Carbon chromatography media as part of this collaboration.
Greg Leach, owner of Leach Particle Technologies, said, “This will be a win-win association. Millennial Scientific is developing sustainable technologies and processes to recycle its NanoPak-C All Carbon media waste. We will play a key role in collecting the end-of-life media and participating in new process solutions.”
The partnership will focus on recycling chromatography media used in pharmaceutical discovery R&D and manufacturing workflows with a high carbon footprint. “We’re recycling resources like graphitic carbon microbeads because we don’t have unlimited resources. Also, unrecycled aggregates could burden the solid waste management areas. So recycling is imperative,” said Balaji Sitharaman, president of Millennial Scientific.

Sustainable waste management is a central part of a broader circular economy. It focuses on minimizing, reusing, and recycling end-of-life materials to reduce waste production. The goal is to keep these materials in circulation for as long as possible, decreasing waste disposal. NanoPak-C graphitic carbon media can be reclaimed, recycled, and reused for chromatography and other applications where graphite is used as a functional component.
Leach Particle Technologies and Millennial Scientific are jointly conducting a study on reusing chromatography media waste. A report was subsequently published. Through joint research initiatives, the partnership will work towards developing energy efficient and environmentally friendly recycling techniques, enhancing innovation in the separation industry.
