Highlights from Advances in Proteomics Technologies (APT-2024) Workshops & Conference

Author: Madhuli Ajay

I recently had the opportunity to represent Millennial Scientific at the ‘Advances in Proteomics Technologies (APT-2024) workshops and International conference’ hosted by IIT Bombay from 17th to 20th February. Attending the conference was an enriching and intellectually stimulating experience for me. Here’s a blog post reflecting on my experience at APT 2024.

Attending a workshop offered at the conference on ‘Sample Preparation in Proteomics gave me an exceptional opportunity for learning and professional development. Entering the class, I found myself amidst a sea of budding scientists eagerly waiting to imbibe knowledge. I was impressed by the depth of knowledge and expertise of the speakers and instructors, who wove together theory and practical applications. The interactive nature of the session encouraged lively discussions, fostering a dynamic learning environment.

The speakers, experts renowned in the field of proteomics, delivered captivating talks on innovations, cutting-edge technologies, and methodologies for proteomics sample preparation. The experienced instructors Medha Pai, and Sudesh Roy, were well-prepared, organized, and had a clear plan for the workshop content and timeline. They had provided participants with relevant materials, resources, and guidance well in advance to support our learning before, during, and after the workshop. Returning to the classroom after a long hiatus and attending this workshop was one of the most rewarding experiences for me.

Our Director, Dr. Balaji Sitharaman, also participated as a speaker in another workshop on Proteomics Technologies for Biopharma Applications. He presented a talk titled ‘Electrochemically Modulated Liquid Chromatography - Implications for Proteomics’. The talk was well received. Other participants included, Dr. Saravanan Kumar from ThermoFisher, Dr. Ravi Krovidi from Protein Advanced Analytics, and Dr. Mayuri Gandhi from IIT Mumbai.

Millennial Scientific actively contribute to the success (APT-2024) of the conference as a sponsor. We (my team members, Monica Sangale, Priyanka Chaudhari, and I) exhibited our suite of novel All Carbon products, which received an overwhelming response. Connecting with budding scientists, academicians, industry leaders, innovators, and fellow enthusiasts was a great opportunity. I found myself engaged in stimulating conversations, exchanging ideas, and forging new collaborations. These interactions provided valuable insights and perspectives, enriching my own understanding of proteomics research. It was also heartening to see Millennial Scientific lighting up the dazzling billboards at the exhibition 😊.

One impactful evening was spent at MOOD-OMICS, a transformative platform where researchers, clinicians, and pharmaceutical experts converged to illuminate the intricate journey of cancer research, spanning from laboratory inception to pharmaceutical applications. The event, held at the IITB convocation hall, commenced with insightful talks from esteemed experts, exploring the pivotal roles of genetics, genome alterations, and proteome dynamics in cancer. This multi-faceted event was meticulously designed to foster a collective understanding of cancer research, inspiring active community involvement. The thought-provoking talks blended into a night of cultural extravaganza, enriching the mind and the soul.

The lush green landscape at IITB exudes a unique charm and tranquillity that is hard to find elsewhere and needs a special mention. Surrounded by hills and embraced by the serene Powai and Vihar lakes, the campus feels like an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The morning walks along the lake and evening strolls through the beautiful green pathways helped us unwind after a long day.

As the conference drew to a close, I felt a renewed sense of inspiration and motivation. Being at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, reminded me of the transformative power of education and the endless possibilities that lie ahead. Whether as a student or as a visitor, the campus continues to be a beacon of excellence and innovation, shaping the minds of future generations and leaving an indelible mark on all who pass through its gates. Armed with new ideas and insights, I left the event feeling energized and motivated to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in my sphere of the world.
